Abstract

515,879. Constructional cell-like metal units. WERPE, E. F. DE. July 25, 1938, No. 22089. [Class 20 (ii)] Girders, floors, beams and the like are formed of one piece cell like units of three, four or more sides, joined together by their enveloping walls, the strength of the unit residing in the depth of such wall, and the load lying in the direction of such depth or at right angles to the plane of the. unit. The units may be open at both faces as at F, Fig. 6, or may have one face closed by a wall H, Fig. 3, but this wall does not contribute to the strength of such unit. The units may be joined together so that the walls W form continuous intercostal beams 4 as shown in Fig. 4, or with staggered joints crosswise to form broken transverse intercostal ribs B, Fig. 5, the direction of the line of load. thereon lying parallel to the depth of the enveloping walls of the units.
