STUCCO BUILDING CONSTRUCTION Filed Nov. 14, 1930 Patented Feb. 23, 193.?.
UNITED STATE PERRY WHITING, 0F LOS ANGELES, CALIIORllIAl STUCCO BUILD-ING CONSTRUCTION Application filed November 14, 1930. Serial No. 495,621.
This invention relates to stucco building construction and, more especially, to the corner construction of buildings.
An object of this invention is the general improvement of building construction.
Another object is the utilization of a minimum amount of timber for the making of relatively thiol; or deep walls.
Another important object is the provision of relatively strong corner construction for stucco buildings with a minimum amountof timber.
Another important object is to provide a bevel corner construction for stucco buildings,
i thereby insuring against pieces of stucco being accidentally broken of by being struck. Other objects and advantages will appear in the subjoined detailed description.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention Figure 1 is horizontal section of a stucco building` construction embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a broken perspective view of the construction as viewed from the interior, the inside wall being omitted.
Referring to the drawings, there is pro vided a pair of uprights or joists 5 disposed so that in the direction of their width they form a right angle. The members 5 are placed corner to corner so that their adjacent edges 6 form a right angle and so that their adjacent faces 7, also, form a right angle. To the faces 6 are secured the lath 8 by fastening means 9 and the interior plaster 10 covers the lath 8 so as to form the interior wall of the structure.
The members 5 are secured by nails 11, or their equivalents7 to a vertically positioned member 12 that has one edge 13 abutting one of the faces 7. One of the faces la of the member 12 abuts the other face 7 and, accordingly, the member 12 occupies the angle between the faces 7. Said member 12' is of less width than the members 5.
The foundation 15 for the stucco 16 of the exterior wall is secured by fastening means 17 to the outer edges 18 of the members 5, and between the members 5 the foundation 15 and stucco 16 extends in a bevelled wall 50 portion 19 to form a. bevelled corner for the building structure. Adjoining the bevelled portion 19, the exterior wall extends in portions 2O that are substantially parallel with the interior walls.
The foregoing will make clear the construction and operation of the invention. The three members 5, 5, 12 together constitute a strong corner unit and, at the same time, permit of the very desirable bevel form of the exterior stucco at the corner of the building.
I claim:
l. A. stucco building` corner construction comprising a pair of uprights disposed at a right angle in the direction of their width, a 6,- third upright positioned in the angle between the first mentioned uprights and secured thereto, and a stucco wall secured to the outer edges of the first mentioned means, portions of said wall extending at a right angle to each 70 other and another portion of said wall extending in a plane between said edges.
2. A stucco building corner construction comprising a pair of uprights placed corner to corner with two of their adjacent faces disposed at a right angle to each other and with their adjacent inner edges disposed at a right angle to each other, an interior wall secured to said edges, a third upright positioned in the first mentioned angle and secured to the irst mentioned uprights, and an exterior stucco wall secured to the outer edges of the first mentioned members, portions of said exterior wall lying parallel to the interior wall and another portion of the exterior wall extending in a plane between said outer edges of the first mentioned members.
3. A corner construction for a stucco building comprising a pair of uprights disposed at right angles to each other with one corner of each upright adjacent the corner of the other, a third upright of rectangular cross section positioned in the angle between the first mentioned uprights and secured thereto, said third upright being of such dimensions that its outer corner lies in a plane between the outer corners of the first two uprights, and a stucco wall secured to the outer edges of said first two npriffhts, portions of snid wall extending at a right angle to each other and another portion of said wall extending in a plane between said ont-er corners of said irst two uprights and contacting with the outer corner of said third upright.
Signed at Los Angeles, California, this 1st day of November, 1930.
