515,090. Electro-acoustic transmitters ; magnets. HUGHES & SON, Ltd., H., SPROULE, D. O., and HUGHES, A. J. May 4, 1938, No. 13287. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXV] An electro-acoustic transmitter &c. of the moving-coil type for echo-sounding has its core composed of two series of laminations h, j, so arranged one within the other as to form a tunnel for the polarizing coil b and an annular gap c for the driver coil s. The laminations are formed with inclined surfaces d, e, which cooperate with similarly shaped surfaces p, r, on a base plate f and a clamping ring g. The laminations, which are provided with an insulating layer, may be of tapered section. Alternatively, peripheral spacers are provided be-, tween the laminations h, j. The coil s oh the former t may be replaced by a cylindrical metal member in which the signal currents are induced by transformer action from the energising coil b to which the signal currents are supplied in addition to intermittent energising current. The former t, or the equivalent metal member, is connected to a diaphragm supported in a housing w which carries a horn v and is attached to the ring g and base plate f. The assembled core may'be impregnated with a natural or artificial insulating substance.
