Abstract

703,809. Magnetic telephone instruments; moving coil loudspeakers. TANNOY, Ltd. Dec. 16, 1952 [Jan. 17, 1952], No. 1394/52. Class 40 (4) A slug 1 of magnet steel is held in place within a pot or similar enclosing structure 2 by means of a hollow tube 9 which passes through the centre of the slug 1 and is secured at one end to the enclosing structure 2 and at the other end to a central pole piece 6. An annular outer pole piece 5 is spaced from the inner pole piece 6 by a ring 17 of non-magnetic material and is fastened to the enclosing structure 2 by bolts 15. As shown, a magnetic system as described above is incorporated in a pressure-type moving coil loudspeaker as described in Specification 703,810 and the tube 9 may be partially or totally obstructed so as to vary the acoustic properties of the cavity behind the diaphragm 20.
