Abstract
643,518. Telephone instruments. WHEELER INSULATED WIRE CO., Inc. Aug. 19, 1947, No. 22974. [Class 40 (iv)] A transducer comprises an armature 16 with one end secured between two permanent magnets 8, 10 of opposite adjacent polarity and the other end extending through an air gap 18 between polepieces 12, 14 fitted to the ends of the magnets. As shown, the armature is encircled by a coil 22 and has its free end connected by a driving rod 24 to a diaphragm 6 fitted in a base 4. The magnet assembly and the base are secured together by a rivet 28. For sound-powered operation the armature is centrally-located in the air gap. The transducer may be adapted for battery-energized systems by biassing the armature towards one of the polepieces.
