Abstract

1,002,128. Moving coil loudspeakers. A. TAYLOR. March 16, 1962 [March 16, 1961], No. 9714/61. Heading H4J. In a moving-coil loud-speaker or microphone in which the magnetic circuit comprises a ring magnet, a central pole member, and opposed ferromagnetic end plates between which the ring magnet is disposed, an air gap being formed between at least one of said end plates and the central pole member, which may also be magnetized, the cone is disposed between the end plates within the ring magnet with the coil in the air gap. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which the ring magnet 1 end plates 5d and 7d which support polepiece 6d via non-magnetic members 17 and 18. The cone 10 is supported on a flange on the magnetic ring 1 and the coil former is attached ta the apex of the cone and carries windings 8 and 8d co-operating with the two gaps. In alternative embodiments one or the other of the windings is omitted and the central polecarried directly by the appropriate end plate, Figs. 1 and 3, not shown. In addition one or other of the end plates may be dished e.g. as in Fig. 2, while in Fig. 7 a further embodiment is shown mounted on a jig 24 which locates the central polepiece 6f relatively to the end plate 5f during assembly, in this embodiment the periphery of the cone is mounted on a cardboard or plastic sleeve 21 secured in the magnet ring 1f.
