Abstract

767,309. Loud-speakers. GOODMANS INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 22, 1955 [March 5, 1954], No. 6547/54. Class 40 (4). In a loud-speaker having separate coaxial moving coil systems for high and low frequency reproduction, the central pole-piece 2b which with an annular front plate 3 forms a first air gap 4 has provided at its front end an auxiliary pole element 2c of smaller diameter which with a supplementary pole plate 8 defines a second air gap 9 located in the same magnetic circuit. Pole tip 2b and permanent magnet 2a are secured in the casing by bolt 5 and the supplementary pole plate 8 is supported on a non- ferrous locating ring 7 or on non-ferrous distance pieces in an annular groove or recess 6. A domed high-frequency diaphragm 14 is clamped around its periphery between a pair of washers 17 and is enclosed by a perforated cover 15. A small acoustic horn 20 may be provided and the whole of the high-frequency unit may be secured to the pole-piece 2b by non-ferrous bolts 18. A ring-type permanent magnet may be used or the assembly may be mains energized.
