Abstract

696,852. Loud-speakers. GOODMANS INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 24, 1952 [May 30, 1951], No. 12761/51. Class 40 (iv). In a loud-speaker of the type having two concentric cones 10, 11 for reproducing different ranges of frequency, the magnetic unit comprises a centre pole-piece 2 and an annular permanent magnet 3 mounted concentrically in a pot-shaped casing 1 whereby two concentric air gaps 6, 7 are defined by the centre pole 2 and pole-plates 4, 5 mounted respectively on the casing and the permanent magnet. The diaphragms 10 and 11 are carried by spiders 12, 14 mounted respectively on the casing and the permanent magnet, but the inner diaphragm may alternatively be mounted on the centre pole. In modifications the pole-plate 4 is dispensed with and the inner plate is extended to co-operate with the casing wall or alternatively the casing is provided with an inturned flange. The field intensities in the gaps are determined by the thicknesses of the pole plates.
