Abstract
677,235. Sound-receiving devices. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 4, 1949 [Nov. 5, 1948], No. 28856/48. Addition to 624,566 and 677,225. Class 40 (iv). In an electro-acoustic transducer having its magnetic circuit arranged as in Specification 677,225, the auxiliary pole-piece comprises an annular ridge 21 raised from the surface of a disc 19 the outer edge of which cooperates with the magnet 10, and the disc is pierced at the middle by a hole 23 which is covered by a silk disc 24. In the deaf aid receiver shown a nickel-iron base plate 7 is seated on a shelf 6 in a thermoplastic casing 1 and carries both a central polepiece 11 and the magnet 10, on the upper face of which rests the upper cheek 14 of a spool and a mild steel ring 13. A diaphragm rests on the upper spool cheek 14 and the ring 13 supports the disc 19 so that the annular ridge 21 is substantially opposite the face of the main pole. A projection 22 on the other side of the disc is designed to carry a plug for insertion in the ear, and the hole 23 covered by the silk disc 24 provides a sound passage to the diaphragm. Projections 9 from the lower spool cheek carrying leads to the coil 16 pass through apertures 8 in the base 7 of the magnetic assembly and the leads terminate at contacts 5 on the base 2 of the casing. Grooves 4 in the extensions 3 from the bottom of the casing receive a spring to hold a plug so that its contacts co-operate with those on the base.
