Abstract
999,378. Receivers. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. April 2 5 , 1 963 [April 2 7 , 1 962 ], No. 16277/63. Heading H4J. In an electro-acoustic transducer comprising a cylindrical housing divided into three resonance chambers by the diaphragm and a transverse partition, a cylindrical wall joins the diaphragm and the partition to form an annular fourth resonance chamber which is acoustically coupled to either or both of the chambers bounded by the housing and the disphragm or partition. As shown, Fig. 1, a receiver comprises a casing G containing a diaphragm M, a transverse partition Tl, and a cylindrical partition T2 which divides casing G into four chambers Cl, C2, C4 and C5. An earpiece HA is mounted on casing G and is shown in contact with an " ear volume " C3. Chambers C1 and C2 are acoustically coupled by impedance Rl, L1, and chambers C3, C4 are coupled by R3, L3, while chamber C5 is coupled to chamber C4 by R6, L6 which is formed by an opening round the peripheral edge of diaphragm M. As shown, Fig. 3, a telephone receiver comprises a ring-shaped support A for a ring- armature RA arranged so that chamber C5 is formed between the magnet D and support A, perforations or notches being cut in the edge of the diaphragm to form the impedance R6, L6. In other embodiments the annular chamber C5 is acoustically coupled to chamber Cl instead of, or as well as, chamber C4. The equivalent electrical circuits of the resonance chambers are given and the effects of the chambers on the frequency response of the transducer are discussed.
