Abstract
698,695. Microphones. LUSTRAPHONE, Ltd. Oct. 29, 1951 [Jan. 11, 1951], No. 846/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (iv). In a moving-coil microphone either the control part only or the periphery only of the diaphragm is rigidly supported, both faces of the diaphragm being substantially freely accessible to the surrounding air around substantially the whole peripheral extent of that part of the diaphragm which is free to vibrate and the diaphragm has at least one aperture within the area of the moving coil supported from the diaphragm. This arrangement is stated to be such that sound waves from a relatively. distant source cause substantially no vibration of the diaphragm whereas those from a relatively close source do cause vibration of the diaphragm. The upper periphery of the magnet adjacent the lower edge of the diaphragm is recessed to ensure free access of air to the diaphragm. In the peripherally-mounted embodiment the clamping-rings which support the diaphragm are secured to pillars on the magnet. U.S.A. Specification 2,350,010 is referred to.
