Abstract

501,152. Loud-speakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BRITTAIN, F. H. Sept. 20, 1937, No. 25485. [Class 40 (iv)] In a loud-speaker having a diaphragm mounted in a frame, the vibrations of the diaphragm within the range between 60 and 200 cycles per sec. are damped by placing on the frame and behind the diaphragm a fabric of such a nature and at such a position that the vibrations of the diaphragm drive air to and from the fabric and that the low frequencies are reduced whilst the response of the loud-speaker at higher frequencies is substantially unaffected. As shown, a bowlshaped housing 1 carrying the diaphragm is formed with perforations 3 covered by a sheet of velvet or plush. British Specifications 253,486, 302,274, [both in Class 40 (iv)], 373,268, 434,563, and U.S.A. Specifications 1,844,605 and 1,991,738 are referred to.
