956,113. Deaf aid sets. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 13, 1962 [Dec. 16, 1961], No. 47131/62. Heading H4J. [Also in Division H2] A hearing aid of the type to be carried behind the ear comprises a bipartite housing containing a chassis plate 31, Fig. 3, carrying a nicrophone 3, amplifier 5, and a battery housing 9, the battery housing also carries a telephone receiver 13 and a volume control 7. The battery 11 of the hearing aid is enclosed in an insulating cupshaped casing having an aperture off-centre of the bottom of the cup and the aid is switched on by rotating the battery casing 49, the edge of which projects through an opening in the casing as shown in Fig. 1, until a contact spring attached to the chassis plate 31 makes contact with the battery through the aperture in the casing 49, the other connection to the battery being maintained by tag 53 pressed out from the housing 9. A listening coil may be provided for use with a telephone in which case a switch 39 (see Division H2) is attached to the battery housing to change over connections from the microphone to the listening coil. Acoustic connection to the microphone and receiver is by tube 29 and 25, respectively. The volume control and switch 39 are attached to the battery housing by double sided adhesive tape, and the two halves of the instrument case are held together by a projection 19 and a screw 21.
