Abstract

1,032,548. Hearing aids. DAHLBERG ELECTRONICS Inc. Dec. 4, 1964 [April 2, 1964], No. 49498/64. Heading H4J. In a hearing aid 10 (Fig. 2) comprising a housing 11 adapted to be worn in the auricle of the user, an elongated transducer 43, which in use produces acoustic energy at one end thereof, is accommodated within a soft resilient elongated casing 39 projecting from the housing 11 to enable the transducer 43 to be inserted in the external acoustic meatus of the user. In use an aperture 49 is adjacent the eardrum. The housing 11 is divided into a compartment 12 housing a microphone 25, a compartment 13 containing a holder 33 for a wafer type battery and a compartment 14 containing an amplifier 34 mounted on a printed circuit board. Since the microphone 25 and amplifier 34 are separated by the battery compartment 13 feedback between amplifier and microphone is minimized. Microphone compartment 12 has an aperture 17 having a grommet 20 fitted therein and a microphone grille 18 is positioned over the aperture and held in place by a cap 19. A second aperture 22 in compartment 12 has fitted therein a screwdriver-adjustable potentiometer 23 protected by a cap 24. The microphone 25 has a sound aperture 26 and is shock-mounted by rubber or other resilient material 27. A coverplate 30 seals compartment 12. The battery makes contact with conductive plates 31, 32 clipped over walls 15, 16 respectively. Amplifier 34 is insulated from the plate 32 by a spacer 36. The receiver 43 has its sound aperture 44 adjacent casing aperture 49. A protection plate 47 having flanged edges 48 (Fig. 3, not shown) is provided. A wall plate 52 seals the compartment 14 and has an aperture 53 the diameter of which is less than the normal diameter of a lip 42 of the casing 39. In assembly, the lip 42 is compressed and forced through the aperture 53, the casing 39 being held in place by lip 42. A locking member 54 comprises a knob portion 55 joined to a plate 56 by a shaft 57 and is forced through the aperture 41 to pinch the casing 39 in aperture 53. The casing 39 and receiver 43 are pivotally mounted in aperture 53 by the resilience of the casing 39. To retain the casing 39 in the ear canal tips 63 (Figs. 4 to 8, not shown), may fit over the casing 39. These are of very soft rubber and fit exactly the external acoustic meatus of the user.
