Abstract

1,216,010. Hearing aids. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 May, 1968 [20 May, 1967], No. 23631/68. Heading H4J. An in-the-ear hearing aid has a main part 3 for placing in the concha and a transverse part 4 for placing in the external auditory canal. An earpiece 2 joined to the part 4 by means of a rotatable coupling is, in use, placed beyond the bend of the auditory canal. It is made of a rigid synthetic material which is not deformable at body temperature. The part 3 accommodates the amplifier, a supply battery and a microphone. A battery switch 7 and volume control 9 are provided. The microphone receives sound through a capillary duct 8. Part 4 accommodates a receiver aligned with the earpiece sound duct 5. The rotatable coupling is formed by an externally threaded tube 13 (Fig. 2) secured to the part 4. It is screwed into a conical hole of a member 10 cast in the earpiece 2. A detachable conical body 20 having a capillary opening 23 prevents ear wax from penetrating into the part 4 and favourably influences the frequency characteristics of the aid.
