Abstract

1383473 Hearing aids BOMMER AG 1 Feb 1973 [2 Feb 1972] 5071/73 Heading H4J A hearing aid has two microphones, one having an omni-directional characteristic and the other having a directional characteristic which are selectively connectable to the hearing aid amplifier. The selection may be automatic in accordance with signal level or manual. In a preferred arrangement the two microphones 11, 12, Fig. 5, are arranged in separate chambers 29, 30, in a common housing 27. The omnidirectional microphone chamber has one sound inlet 31, and the directional microphone chamber has two sound inlets 32 and 35, communicating one each side of the microphone diaphragm and with the inlet 35 providing a higher sound attenuation than the inlet 32. The inlets 31, 32, are fed from a common funnel 33. The microphones can be electromagnetic piezoelectric or capacitor types but both of the same type. The amplifier 42 may be an integrated circuit. In an automatically switched system the amplifier (19), Fig. 2 (not shown) has an additional output (24) when the signal level is above a predetermined threshold which is used to provide a switching signal for changeover from the omnidirection to the directional microphone. The switching signal channel may be made frequency dependent.
