Abstract

1530814 Ear defenders BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 20 June 1977 [19 June 1976] 25518/76 Heading H4J Ear defenders comprise ear pieces 1 each including a microphone 5, e.g. an electret, and a transducer 3. The output of the microphone is fed via a variable gain inverting amplifier 6, a filter 7 and a speaker drive circuit 8 to the transducer 3 so as to tend to cancel the sound picked up by the microphone. The microphone 5 may be replaced by two microphones which are positioned on either side of the transducer 3 (Figure 4, not shown). The filter 7 may be a low pass filter having a cut off frequency of 1000 Hz. The transducer 3 is preferably electrostatic and may also be used to feed an external signal, e.g. from an intercom system, to the ear.
