Abstract

673,939. Loud-speakers. MAGNAVOX (AUSTRALIA) PTY., Ltd. Aug. 27, 1948 [Aug. 27, 1947; Oct. 2, 1947], Nos. 22648/48 and 22649/48. Class 40 (iv). A moving - coil loud-speaker comprises two independent and detachable units, namely, a diaphragm unit and a magnetic unit which on assembly are located in operative relation by the top plate 14 of the magnetic unit and are locked together by a member 18 engaging both units. The diaphragm 12, coil former and spider 13 are correctly centred by a jig which fits accurately in the aperture in the floor of the diaphragm housing and the centre pole 17 of the magnetic unit is located by a non- magnetic ring 15 nesting in the under side of the top plate 14, the pole 17 being held to the bottom of the pot 16 by magnetic attraction. The units are located by shoulders 11E and 14A on the top and underside of the plate 14 and are locked by the ring 18, while the lower end bears against the upper side of the pot 16 and its upper end is provided with bayonet tongues 18A, which enter corresponding slots in the diaphragm casing. The units are locked by partial rotation. In a modification, Fig. 4, a short central pole-piece 17A standing on a cylindrical magnet 17B, positioned in a recess 16A in the pot base, is located by the non- magnetic ring 15 and the locking ring bayonet tongues engage slots 11G in a plate projecting from the main housing. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the locking ring covers the whole of the magnet pot.
