Abstract
506,480. Receivers ; transmitters; diaphragms. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 9, 1938, No. 26385. Convention date, Oct. 6, 1937. [Class 40 (iv)] An electro-acoustic transmitter or receiver comprises a diaphragm having a central rigid disc of non.magnetic material attached to au outer annular section of magnetic material and the actuating means for the diaphragm comprises an annular polepiece coacting with the outer annular section at the boundary of the central disc. In the receiver shown in Fig. 2, the diaphragm has a central portion 9 of non-magnetic material, such as aluminium or aluminium alloy of a thickness of about 001 inch, and the annular magnetic portion 10 has a thickness of about 010 inch. The magnetic system is formed by outer and inner polepieces 4, 6, a ring magnet 7 and voice-coil 8. The annular member 10 is held in position by magnetic attraction and a spacing ring 11 of magnetic material is disposed between the casing 1 and a flange 5 formed on the polepiece 4. In the transmitter shown in Fig. 4, the outer polepiece 21 is disposed in a recess in the casing 22 and the inner polepiece 25 is Z-shaped. The casing is provided with a cover 26, Fig. 6, having an annular passageway 27 formed by a conical member 28 supported by members 33 and located in a frusto-conical opening in the cover.
