Abstract
552,328. Loud speakers &c. RESLO (SOUND EQUIPMENT), Ltd., MURKHAM, L. W. Dec. 4, 1941, No. 15642. [Class 40 (iv)] In a loud-speaker or microphone of the moving coil type having an annular gap between the inner pole-piece 7 and an outer pole-piece 5, the diaphragm unit and the outer pole-piece are centred by fitting them in a common circular recess 4 which may be formed in the rear surface of the front 2 of the housing. The inner pole-piece 7 is centred by a non- magnetic bush 8 mounted on the back of the pole-piece 5, the pole-piece 7 fitting in the bush and having a shoulder 9 which limits its rearward movement. A single screw 10 secures the pole-pieces 5, 7, magnet 12 and plate 11 rigidly together. Screws 14 press the pole-piece 5 into the recess 4, thereby clamping the diaphragm unit in position. To reduce air damping, holes 15 are made in the outer pole-piece 5 and bush 8, and additional holes 16 (in the bush 8) and 17 (in the plate 11) permit, air to escape from the annular gap. The bush 8 is attached to the rear side of the pole-piece 5 by heat springing. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the outer casing has an opening communicating with the atmosphere provided with a shield so arranged that rain cannot enter the casing in any position.
