Abstract

490,750. Loud-speakers; microphones. YOUNG, L., and YOUNG, A. Feb. 19, 1937, No. 4997. [Class 40 (iv)] An electrodynamic loud-speaker or microphone incorporates a diaphragm assembly which includes a member adapted to engage with the outer bounding surface of the centre pole proper of the magnetic system of the device in such a manner that upon movement of the diaphragm assembly as a whole whilst it is being fitted to or removed from the magnetic system the member functions to guide the coiled conductor, carried by the assembly, with respect to the said centre pole of the magnetic system. The diaphragm 8 has a cylindrical portion 7 on which the speech-coil is mounted and a flange portion carrying rings 10 which are located by means of a stepped portion 11 in the pole-plate 3. The guiding member 12 which is formed as a conical ring with apertures 15 and a cylindrical flange 14 co-operating with the centre polepiece 2 is clamped to the pole-plate 3 by screws 13 which also pass through the rings 10. The pole-plate 3 which is secured to a magnetic ring 4 by screws 5, is provided with holes 17 in which screws 16, normally carried by the base-plate 1, are rotated to effect the separation of the pole-plate 3 from the ring 4. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the apertures through which the fixing screws pass are enlarged and provided with screw threads engaged by a threaded pin employed to effect the separation of the pole-plate and the magnetic ring. As shown in Fig. 2, the leads 18 from the speech coil are connected to insulated metal tabs 19 forming part of the diaphragm assembly and having apertures 21 which are engaged by associated terminal posts on the pole-plate when the diaphragm assembly is mounted in the recessed portion 11 of the poleplate 3.
