Abstract

460,064. Loud-speakers; microphones. YOUNG, L., and YOUNG, A., (trading as VITAVOX ACOUSTICS). Dec. 13,1935, No. 34702. [Class 40 (iv)] In a moving coil loud-speaker or microphone the vibratory diaphragm is formed wholly of metal and includes a cylindrical metal portion, on which the speech coil is carried, of openwork structure to prevent the circulation of eddy currents in the cylindrical portion. The diaphragm, which may be made in one piece, has a cylindrical portion 2 provided with staggered perforations 4 and an integral radial flange 3 to which are secured supporting rings 16, 17 for mounting the diaphragm on the magnet structure. A strip of rice paper may be secured around the cylindrical portion 2 to prevent the circulation of air through the perforations 4. The diaphragm is mounted and the coil centred in the air gap 15 by means of a circumferential rim 20 formed on the outer pole-plate 12 and co-operating with the rings 16, 17. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), in which the plane of the circumferential flange is disposed near the upper end of the cylindrical flange, the diaphragm is centred by a circular recess formed in the upper surface of the outer pole-plate in association with rings such as 16, 17, Fig. 1, secured to the diaphragm.
