Abstract

641,651. Electromagnetic transducers. CHAPMAN, C. T., and GOODMANS INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 10, 1947, No. 9530. [Class 40 (iv)] In a loudspeaker, a diaphragm 5 carries an annular primary voice coil 1 surrounding a concentric secondary voice coil 2 mounted on a smaller free edge diaphragm 11 intended to reproduce the higher frequencies. The voice coils 1, 2 are disposed in an annular magnetic gap 3 of a magnet 4 and are independently mounted for axial movement within the gap. The secondary voice coil 2 may be shortcircuited, or preferably it is closed through an external circuit comprising a fixed or variable resistance 12, inductance, capacitance or combination thereof. The currents induced in the secondary voice coil may be fed back to the amplifier feeding the primary voice coil. In modifications, the secondary voice coil may carry a cap or dome diaphragm, a horn may be used, and the magnetic structure may be slotted or laminated. The devicemay be used in reverse as a microphone. Specification 469,194 is referred to.
