Abstract

943,321. Earphones. AKUSTISCHE U. KINO-GERATE G.m.b.H. March 14, 1962 [April 28, 1961], No. 9887/62. Heading H4J. An earphone contains a central diaphragm 4 with a moving coil 4a to reproduce high frequencies and a concentrically arranged outer diaphragm 7 with a moving coil 7a to reproduce low frequencies. The arrangement is said to have advantage in reproducing stereophonic waveforms. The moving coil 4a has a magnet 3 in a soft-iron pot 5 while the moving coil 7a has an annular magnet 6 between soft-iron annuli. The casing 1 has a flared skirt 1a to which the diaphragm is glued at its periphery 1b An earpiece 8 screws on to the skirt 1a. To permit low-frequency response of diaphragm 7 when the earpiece is not sealed closely against a user's ear, apertures 9 plugged with acoustic resistance material are provided in the skirt 1a. The moving coils 4a and 7a may both be arranged to work in the same air gap of a single magnetic system.
