508,309. Projectile fuzes. SAGEB SOC. ANON. DE GESTION ET D'EXPLOITATION DE BREVETS. Dec. 28, 1937, No. 35875. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1936. [Class 9 (i)] The safety device for the fuze of a rocketprojectile is held in the unarmed position by a locking member which is adapted to be depressed, to arm the fuze, by the deformation of a diaphragm forming one wall of the combustion chamber of the propulsive charge. The deformation of the diaphragm is effected by the pressure of the gases in the combustion chamber. In the construction shown, the diaphragm 16 bears against a locking cap 10 which is secured to a second cap 12 by means of a pin 11. When the cap 10 is depressed by the diaphragm, the pin is sheared and the cap moves into a position in which a throat 19 formed therein lies opposite a number of balls 17. The latter, which are normally held by the cap in the position shown, to lock the firing pin 13, are thus freed and move outwards under centrifugal force into the throat. On impact, the striker, hitherto held by means of a shearing pin 20 and a spring 15, is projected on to the primer 14.
