506,326. Valves ; valve gear. KAMMER, G. S. Dec. 5, 1938, No. 35421. [Class 7 (vi)] In a two-stroke engine having a sleevevalve with combined axial and rotary movement, the exhaust and scavenge ports in the cylinder are controlled by axial movement of the valve and supercharging-ports in the cylinder by rotary movement of the valve, the opening of the supercharging-ports being effected by the valve alone and the closing by the piston and valve. Fig. I shows one form of valve gear for actuating the valve so as to produce the above-described results and to give the valve its maximum velocities nearer the outer deadcentre position. A gear wheel 3 driven from the crank shaft by a pinion 2 is formed with guides 6 in which slides a shoe 16 mounted on a pin 14 provided on a crank disc 12 which has a spherical connection at 15 with the valve 4. In a modification, Fig. 2, the gear 3 is formed with an axially-extending drum 7 mounted 'to rotate over a fixed mandrel 9, in which is also eccentrically mounted the valveactuating crank 12 connected at 15 to the valve and also to the shoe 16 sliding in the guides 6. The shoe and guides may be fitted at the other end of the crank 12.
