Abstract
501,632. Valve gear; fuel injectors. AMERY, G. Aug. 25, 1937. No. 23876/38. Divided out of 501,588. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] In a fuel injector having valve which is .opened by fuel pressure and closed by applying fluid pressure to a. piston whilst the injection pressure is still maintained, an auxiliary valve is provided which cuts off the fuel supply to the injector when the valve is closed. The nozzle-valve 120, which is urged towards closing position by a spring 124, is closed when fuel, under pressure, is admitted through a pipe 94 to a chamber 121 in which it acts upon a piston 122 carrying a push-rod 143 which rests on the valve 120. The pressure also acts upon a piston 132 to seat an auxiliary valve 130 and cut off the supply of injection fuel through passages 102, 134 to the space around the valve 120. To relieve the pressure in this space when the valve 120 is seated, grooves 136, 137 in the valve place the passage 134 into communication through passages 159, 160, 141, 142 with a chamber 125 having a drain pipe 103 leading to the fuel tank. Fuel leakage past the piston .122 or the valve 120 is'also led away through the drain pipe 103. A distributer controls the admission of fuel to the pipes 94 of the injectors and a low pressure is maintained in the pipes 94 during the period that they are disconnected from the source of fuel pressure. Specifications 468,360 ; 468,372, [Group XXVIII], 501,588; and 501,633, [Group XXVIII], are referred to.
