Abstract
499,055. Grinding. MERGES, H. A., and BENSEN, K. Oct. 5, 1937, No. 26979. [Class 60] [Also in Group II] The external surface of a grinding-disc is cooled or heated by liquid, air, &c. circulated in a jacket formed by a casing b attached to the disc a and provided with an internal partition or baffle c. Liquid is supplied by pipe i and after passing along the surface of the disc a returns between baffle c and casing b to a discharge outlet e from which it falls into a chamber g formed in the frame. Spoke-like baffles h in the chamber g break up the swirling motion of the liquid. Ribs &c. may be provided on the back of disc a and stationary wings &c. may project into the cooling chamber to accelerate the discharge therefrom.
