Abstract
251,756. Schwantes, J. A., and Palmolive Co. April 17, 1925. Soap, shredded &c.-Melted soap passes from a tank 14 through a pipe 15 and pump 16 to a shredding and drying device 18 in a vat 10. The vat is provided with a ventilator 13 and has a chamber 61 fed with hot air by a blower 62. The shreds of soap fall into the lower conical end of the vat and, after passing through a gate controlled by a rotary member 64 are drawn through a pipe 65 into a cyclone member 66. The soap is cooled during its passage through the pipe by cool air from a blower 68. The discharge of the shredded soap from the member 66 into barrels 72 is controlled by gates 70, 71. The shredding and drying device 18, Figs. 7 and 8, is carried in a frame 19 and comprises two oppositelyrotating disc members 23, 25 secured at the ends of sleeve members 22, 24 respectively. The disc 23 is formed with a number of short radial vents extending from its edge to openings in its lower face, and a number of long vents 49 extending from its edge to a central aperture into which the liquid soap is discharged from a central tube 20; the rate of discharge is controlled by a screw 21. The rim of the disc 25 is provided with spaced slots 26. The rotation of the disc 23 forces the soap through the vents 49 and across the line of the rotating rim of the disc 25.
