Abstract
406,059. Centrifugal dust extractors. ANGUS, T. C., Banks Farm, Lambourne End, near Romford, Essex. Aug. 29, 1932, No. 24060. [Class 23.] Solid particles are extracted from fluid in a rotating chamber into which the fluid is injected with a circumferential velocity substantially equal to the velocity of the chamber. The chamber 10 is closed at the top and secured to the shaft 12, while its lower end is partly closed by a plate 14 fixed to a discharge pipe 15. The inlet pipe 16 passes through the discharge pipe and it terminates inside the chamber 10 in a number of nozzles 17 arranged so that the direction and velocity of the entering fluid enable it to enter without turbulence. The separated dust settles on the wall of the chamber 10 and the clean air passes'through the pipe 15 which has a flared top. The dust falls when the machine is stopped or is removed by mechanical scrapers, air or water jets. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the inlet pipe 19 enters at the top of the chamber 10, and a number of vanes 22 of straight or helical form assist in rotating the fluid. In a further modification the nozzles 17 are replaced by radial vanes in the upper part of the chamber which rotate immediately below the fluid inlet.
