Abstract

336,252. Bjerre, S. M. July 4, 1929. Fixed sieves.-Relates to apparatus for sifting milled products of the kind comprising a cylindrical sleeve 1, Fig. 1, formed with one or more screening surfaces 7 against which the materials are thrown by a rotating drum 2 carrying inclined vanes 3 which convey the materials through the cylinder, and consists in making the pitch of the conveying members less at the outlet end of the cylinder than in the screening area so as to provide an obstruction to the discharge of the unscreened material and prevent a blow-out. As shown in Fig. 1, the obstructing member is in the form of a disc 12 carried by the rotating drum and forming with the sides of the cylindrical casing a restricted passage 14. Further obstruction may be caused by providing vanes 17 on the edge of the disc 12 to project the material radially in the form of a curtain. The discharge chamber 11 with its spout 10 may be provided with an adjustable overflow board 15 and may be mounted rotatably to enable the spout to be directed as required. A feed screw 4 may be provided at the inlet end of the apparatus. In a modification the conveying and obstructing members may be in the form of continuous helical ribs. The apparatus may be used in combination with a grinding mill 19 as shown in Fig. 5, the products of the mill being introduced to the screening apparatus by the inlet 5 and the unscreened material returned to the mill by the spout 10.
