Abstract

314,484. Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Co., (Assignees of Schwantes, J. A.). June 28, 1928, [Convention date]. Soaps, powdered, shredded, and granulated.- Apparatus for producing finely divided soap comprises oppositely rotating concentric shafts, one 16 provided with a discharge head 26 having outlet openings 28 tangential to the shaft 16, and the other 17 provided with an annular cutter 32 having inclined grooves 34, adjacent ones being flared to meet at their inlets to form cutting-edges 36. Liquid soap is fed through a central pipe 12 to a chamber 25 in the head 26 in quantity regulated by a needle valve 27. As it is forced through the openings 28 it is further divided by the cutter 32 on the head 30. The particles fall through a drying chamber against a current of air heated to 125‹ C. A fan 29 on the shaft 17 directs neighbouring air downward to prevent soap particles adhering to the shredder casing. The. shafts 16, 17 are driven by an electric motor through a shaft 15, and gearing 18, 19, 20, and 22, 21. Specification 314,483 is referred to.
