Abstract

156,712. Farner, A. April 23, 1919, [Convention date]. Fuel, feeding.-Coal dried in the inner perforated hopper 17 by a current of hot air or gas entering at 19 is delivered, after crushing, into the passage 25 through which the hot air &c. current proceeds and carried thereby into a mill 2 where pulverization is completed and additional air supplied, and whence the final mixture is withdrawn for delivery to the furnace by a fan 9. The crusher comprises a rotary cutter 11 somewhat like a screw tap in form mounted eccentrically in a roughened casing which can be rotated by a worm 15 to control the amount of coal entering from the hopper. The mill comprises a roughened interior with circumferential rows of pins 4 between which beater blades 8 rotate. The beater blades may be obliquely arranged so as to tend to drive the coarser particles towards the inlet end of the casing. Adjustable air supply is admitted at 20 and 21. In a modification, Fig. 4. the crusher is on an extension of the mill shaft and a separator 28 for coarser material is interposed between the mill and the fan; also the beater blades may be carried on a hollow shaft through holes 31 in which the dust mixture has to pass.
