Abstract
191,049. Sherban, D. V. Dec. 23, 1921, [Convention date]. Ball mills.-Relates to mills for pulverizing coal &c. A rotatable drum 2 is carried by trunnions 4 in bearings 9. The receiving end communicates with a supply pipe 5 to which coal is delivered from a hopper terminal 7 and having a valve-controlled inlet 8, air being sucked through the apparatus by an exhaust fan 10 communicating with the delivery end of the drum and with a conduit 11 leading to a furnace &c. The drum may be divided by partitions 12 and carries an axially - arranged cylindrical screen 15 communicating with the fan 10. The screen may be of fine mesh, or may be provided with longitudinal slots 17 narrow at the outer openings and widening inwardly. The supply of air is controlled by an adjustable air-inlet valve 18. The screen acts to collect sufficiently fine coal to be fed to the conduit 11 and also forms a barrier on to which the crushing balls 13 impinge and are divided into two descending streams. The drum, which may be provided with ribs 14, is rotated by a pinion 22 and circular rack 23. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the air-inlet valve 18 may be connected with a. rheostat. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
