Abstract

529,468. Rotary drying-drums. JEFFREY, R. June 1, 1939, No. 16133. [Class 34 (ii)] An externally heated drum for roasting grain is mounted on a hollow shaft 2 perforated at parts 3 so that water sprays may be used to cool the charge, and helical scrolls 4, 5 of opposite hand, and helical blades 6, are provided to feed the grain backwards and forwards. The charge is fed at an opening 7 and removed through an opening 8. Gas burners 10 heat the drum. and during the operation the front end is vented to a stack 12 by means of a pivoted conduit 14.
