426,951. Drying granular &c. material. NIELSEN, C. F., The Old Parsonage Farm, Dartington, Totnes, Devon. Oct. 7, 1933, No. 27670. [Class 34 (ii)] Apparatus for drying fibrous or granular materials comprises a spiral coil through which the material is passed and which rotates in a casing containing hot air, the coil having peripheral openings through which air is drawn as the coil rotates ; the material is drawn through the coil by a current of air, the movement of the material generated by the rotation of the coil being contrary to the current, and means are provided for withdrawing vapour from the coil and supplying air under pressure. The coil a which is mounted on bearings in a casing to which hot air is supplied, has peripheral openings i, which are of streamline form, and the material is drawn through the coil, from left to right, by a fan. Air under pressure may be forced into the coil, through openings e<11>, from a central pipe e, supplied by a blower e<1>. Vapours may be withdrawn by a pipe g' following the conventions of the coil and communicating therewith by openings, not shown. Or the vapours may be separated from the material in the discharge hopper to which it is fed. The material may be fed by the rotation of the coil only, which is then in the opposite sense.
