Abstract

783,077. Drying tobacco &c. IMPERIAL TOBACCO CO. (OF GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND), Ltd. Sept. 21, 1955 [June 25, 1954], No. 18637/54. Class 34(2) A machine for drying tobacco &c. comprising a rotating vaned cylinder 9, heated by gas burners 36, and through which the material is fed while being tumbled by the vanes has a heated rotor 10 supported within the cylinder and upon which the material falls after sliding off the vanes. The rotor 10 is hollow and is fed with steam through a pipe 31 or is heated electrically or by hot air or gas fumes taken from the head 26 covering the cylinder. Material is fed to the cylinder by a conveyer 46 and discharged on to a conveyer 48 where it cools. The cylinder may be steam jacketed instead of being heated by gas jets and the vanes may be hollow to have steam passed therethrough. Alternatively the cylinder and vanes may be electrically heated.
