Abstract
1,009,284. Fibre opening and feeding apparatus. ISOLIER-UND KALTETECHNIK ROSTOCK VEB. Feb. 19,1964, No. 6930/64. Heading D1N. A fibre opening and feeding device having particular application in apparatus for spraying fibres and bindings to provide thermal, acoustic or fire protection insulation coatings includes a cone carrying fibre opening members and rotatably mounted within a supply container and, in a separate housing, a blower rotor provided with spikes. The opening members on the cone 2 may be knife-like strikers 3 or comb-like vanes (Fig. 2 not shown). In the latter arrangement stationary breaker elements are fitted to the bottom of the supply container to co-operate with the vanes. In operation fibres are set in rotation in the container and fibre groupings are reduced in size. They then fall through an opening 19 adjustable in area by by manipulation of a flap 7 and enter the blower casing 12 at a location off-set from the centre of the blower rotor 11. Ejection from the blower derives not only from the effect of the bladed and spiked rotor but under the influence of compressed air supplied through a cock 16.
