Abstract

980,323. Rotary meters. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. March 21, 1962 [March 21, 1961], No. 10245/61. Heading F1F. [Also in Division G4] An axial-flow meter for example, for dustladen gases, comprises a rotor 9 with blades 12, mounted through gas bearings 7 and 8 on a spindle 5 screwed into a nose cone 3 and tail piece 4. Gas for the bearings passes through a passage 6a bores 14 and 5a, and through annular rows of holes 13 to the bearing. The diameter of the tail piece close to the rotor is slightly less than that of the rotor to facilitate escape of the gas. The rotational speed, and the number of rotations of the rotor are detected by magnetic or capacitive means (see Division G4), which may be adapted to compensate for the flow of gas from the upstream bearing 8 past the blades.
