Abstract
974,999. Fog dispersal. A. E. RICHARDS. Aug. 21, 1961 [Aug. 26, 1960], No. 29474/60. Heading A1X. In apparatus for dispersing fog or snow over runways hot exhaust gases from gas turbines1 together with cold air drawn in through fans 3 is fed into ducts 4 extending round the runway and having exit nozzles 7 the direction of which can be varied, the hot gas emerging from the nozzles 7 causing the air over the runway to rise upwardly. The gas in the ducts 4 is diverted to the nozzles 7 by adjustable deflection plates 10 and by means of further deflection plates 13 is fed into a duct lying along the centre of the runway and having outlet nozzles 9 flush with the runway. Gas remaining in the centre duct passes to one of the fan intakes 3 through valve 12. The fans 3 are powered from generators 16 driven through gearing 15 by impellers 17 in the path of the gases from the turbines.
