583,334. Ventilators. AKESTER, J. C., and WYLIE, T. Oct. 18, 1944, No. 20182. [Class 137] [Also in Group XXVI] A ventilating system for a ship's cabin or other compartment comprises a ventilating fan rotatably mounted in an air duct which is supported by means enabling it to turn to cause the fan to face in any direction. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a fan 13 is mounted in a duct or casing 14 which is located adjacent to an air inlet passage and comprises two flanged parts 18 and 19 supported by means of frame member 22 hinged to a secondary frame 29 (see Group XXVI). Alternatively, the casing may be supported by a partly spherical socket. To prevent the passage of water into the fan duct or light emerging from the compartment, a cover 53 is mounted on the outside of the hull 10 and a baffle device 38 of square cross-section is disposed within the air inlet passage. A shroud 57 of circular crosssection fits within the air inlet passage and surrounds the front cutaway portion of the baffle device 38 which is disposed with one of its diagonals vertical.
