Abstract

738,017. Centrifugal fans. KIDDE CO., Ltd., W. Feb. 16, 1954 [Nov. 24, 1952], No. 29628/52. Class 110 (1). An exhaust fan, for use in drawing air through pipes or ducts in a smoke detector or ventilating system, comprises an impeller driven by a motor and arranged in front of an outlet member without direct physical connection of the motor to the outlet member. This arrangement reduces the transmission of motor noise through the piping ; a further reduction may be effected by mounting the motor on rubber blocks. In the embodiment shown, two impellers 5 are provided, each driven by a motor 6 and mounted in front of a conical member 4. The members 4 are carried by a junction-box 1 attached at a flange 2 to the piping of a smoke detector. Only one fan is operated, the other fan being kept in reserve. Check valves, each comprising a rubber flap 9 fastened at its top edge only, close the unused branch of the junction-box 1. The impellers are shielded by a perforated metal guard attached to the junction-box.
