Abstract
919,350. Air cushion vehicles. HOVERCRAFT DEVELOPMENT Ltd. April 27, 1959 [April 30, 1958], No. 14313/59. Class 4. In a vehicle for travelling over land and/or water and which in operation is supported above the surface of the land and/or water by at least one cushion of pressurised gas formed and contained beneath the vehicle, at least in part, by a curtain of moving fluid issuing from a position in the lower part of the vehicle, means are provided for recovering into the vehicle from a position inboard of the position from which the curtain forming fluid issues, at least part of the fluid forming the curtain and employing said recovered fluid for further use of the energy therein. The vehicle 1 is provided with a fan 11 feeding a supply duct 6 which opens at an annular supply port 7, air passing from port 7 to transfer port 9 through transfer duct 8 for emission from an outlet transfer port 10, thereby forming a primary curtain 2 and a secondary curtain 3. Other embodiments show multi-stage recirculating systems and fans may be provided in the duct 6 to provide a closed-circuit system. Specifications 854,211 and 893,715 are referred to.
