Abstract

817,832. Mulling apparatus. IMPERIAL TOBACCO CO. (OF GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND) Ltd. Aug. 9, 1956 [Aug. 18 1955; Dec. 21, 1955], Nos. 23760/55 and 36567/55. Class 59 [Also in Groups VI and XIII] Tobacco leaves are delivered by a conveyer 6 to a mill 7 having a plurality of inwardly directed peripheral blades co-acting with knives on a rotating vaned drum to chop up the leaves which pass via a rotary valve 10 preferably preceded by a screen into a muller 9 whose grinding rollers 9B are eccentrically freely pivoted on a rotating crosshead 9A carrying deflectors 9C feeding the chopped leaves between the rollers 9B and the co-acting muller casting. The resulting tobacco particles, varying from 1 to 500 microns in size, are drawn upwards by an air current induced, by a recirculatory fan system 12, 13A, 13, from an inlet 15 to a nozzle 14 projecting into the trunking 13. The particles pass, via the nozzle and trunking, into a multi-tube cyclone separator 16.
