Abstract

861,937. Grinding fuel; impact pulverizers. SIMON, W. Sept. 23, 1958 [Sept. 27, 1957], No. 30408/58. Class 59 Pulverized solid wet bituminous fuels are ground to a granular size 1-2 mm. in a single process by means of apparatus comprising a plurality of grinding stages through which an air current flows continuously. In the apparatus shown, material to be ground is fed in at 3 and the conveying air at 4, the air being drawn through the apparatus by means of a fan 5. The grinding stages 6 to 9 are formed by rotary vanes. The grinding is effected by means of eddies formed in the air current, the eddies becoming progressively smaller from the coarse stage 6 to the first stage 9. The ground material is discharged at 10 and passed to a suspension drier, Fig. 3 (not shown). The fuel may be initially crushed before being fed to the grinding apparatus.
