Abstract

740,632. Impact pulverizers; ball mills. P.H.I. ENGINEERING, Ltd. (Engler, O.). March 6, 1953, No. 6237/53. Class 59. The casing 1 of a centrifugal pulverizer encloses a grinding space 2 and a classifying space 3, and the material to be pulverized together with carrier gas and /or air is fed through a downpipe 8 to a centrifugal impeller 18, and a funnel-like device 15 separates the grinding space from the classifying space, the pulverized material being discharged through a distribution chamber 9. The downpipe 8 is provided with a shell 11 which can be raised and lowered by means of rods 12, and the shell 11 is connected to the device 15 by means of straps 13 and bolts 14 so that the device 15 together with the shell can be raised to permit the withdrawal of the impeller 18 through a door 19 in the casing 1. The bolts 14 are adjustable in oblong holes 20 in the straps 13 so as to adjust the gap 21 between the device 15 and the shell 11. The impeller is provided with a circular plate 22 and with impact plates or vanes 23 which are held in place by means of a ring 24 which is spaced from the device 15 to provide a gap 25. Balls or other hard bodies may be inserted in the grinding space 2. Particles of the desired fineness are carried from the classifying space 3 around the lower edge of an adjustable pipe 28 to the chamber 9 for discharge through outlet branches 10. Coarser particles are returned via the device 15 and gap 21 to the grinding space 2. The casing 1 is provided with a concave part 29 merging into a convex part 30, and with a sloping or concave bottom ring 27. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the impeller is replaced by a number of paddles or rods with or without pegs or hammer heads and arranged in one or more horizontal planes. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the impeller is provided with additional impact plates or vanes arranged in one or more horizontal planes.
