Abstract

1,193,407. Hammer mills. HAZEMAG. 31 May, 1968, No. 26354/68. Heading B2A. A hammer mill has a rotor 1, Fig. 2, a grinding chamber, a grate below the rotor and a turbulence chamber 3 extending upwardly from the grinding chamber with a foreign-body container 8 located in the turbulence chamber. The chamber walls are such, that matter incapable of 'being ground is directed into the container. Feed is by one of two belt conveyers 5 according to the direction of rotation of the hammer and/or beater-carrying rotor 1. Foreign bodies are deflected out from the mill via apertures (10), Fig. 3, not shown. A wall 11 below the container 8 serves as a breaker plate. In one embodiment, the grate, Fig. 1 (not shown) is fixed but adjustable and in a second embodiment grate bars 19, Fig. 2, have teeth 20, are pivoted at 21, adjustable at 22 and sprung at 23 so that uncomminuted material not caught in the container 8 will not damage the grate. In each case the container 8 has pedulum flaps 9 opening downwardly under the weight of the unground material.
