Abstract

1,211,759. Hulling cacao beans. SOC. DE FINANCEMENT INDUSTRIEL COMMERCIAL ET AGRICOLE. 5 June, 1968, No. 26871/68. Heading A2Q. [Also in Divisions A4 and B2] A crushing machine comprises a drum 4 keyed on a shaft 3 and bearing spaced transverse bars 5 on its periphery and a curved grid 6 also having transverse bars 7. The radius of curvature of the grid 6 is greater than that of the drum 4. In operation, cacao pods introduced at F 1 , where a hopper (not shown) may be disposed, are nipped between the bars 5 and 7, the broken pieces passing through the grid 6. Large fragments are removed at F 2 . Finer material passes through a screen 18 and is removed at F 3 . Cocoa nibs are recovered at F 4 via screen 19 and fine dust passes a final screen 20 and falls into a container 21. The screens 18 ... 20 are jogged by a linkage 12 connected to the main shaft 3. The spacing between the grid 6 and drum 4 may be adjusted by a threaded rod and nut arrangement 9.
