A machine for breaking up flakes, agglomerates and particles in powdered materials comprises a housing 1 having an inlet 2, a worm 9 for lifting the material from the inlet, helicallyarranged rotatable beaters 10 for propelling the material towards a tangential outlet at the top of the housing, and abutment rods 12 each having a flat surface and each being rotatable to vary the distance between the beaters and the junction between the flat and curved surfaces of the rod.
