Abstract

301,887. Loy, G. S. Dec. 9, 1927, [Convention date]. Disc and like mills.-Apparatus for drying and pulverizing fuel &c. comprises a hopper 1 delivering into a screw conveyer 2 situated over a dryer 4 in which hot gas circulates and having blades or paddles 6 mounted on a horizontal shaft 5. The material is discharged from the dryer through an aperture 9 on to a magnetic drum 10 and thence, freed from magnetized particles, into a trough 11 leading to a pulverizer 12. The pulverized material passes thence through a pipe 14 to a sorting chamber 15 containing screens. The finer particles pass through the screens and are drawn by suction fans into pipes 18, and conveyed to the point of use. Material in excess of requirements and also larger particles failing to pass through the screens, fall back into the conveyer 2 and thus reduce the amount of fresh fuel fed into the circuit. A perforated screen 17 permits the suction to draw sufficiently fine particles direct from the dryer.
